Medical cannabis clinics, charities, and other relevant groups are being asked to support the UK’s first medical cannabis patient conference.

On 4 November, as part of Medical Cannabis Awareness Week, the conference will be held at Oval Space in London.

Patients and prescribers will be able to come together and celebrate each other’s journeys during the event, which is being organized by Drug Science and Medcan Support.

The UK Patient Conference is open to the general public, created for medical cannabis patients and anyone interested in learning more about cannabis-based medicines.

This way they hope to bridge the wide gap between the cannabis industry and recreational-focused events.

It is intended to become an annual get-together for the community that will help put Medical Cannabis Awareness Week on the world’s radar.

Participants will include medical cannabis patients, prescribers, and advocates who will present individual talks and participate in panel discussions.

A world-premiere documentary, Anything Can Happen, will also be screened at the conference, which documents the story of Dr. Jen Anderson, a Canadian family doctor who fought for access to cannabis for her epileptic son.

Following the event, Dr. Anderson will join producer Chase Gouthro for a live Q&A with Chase Anderson, a cannabis prescriber and leading expert on medical cannabis for children.

Clinics, charities, and other relevant industry groups are being encouraged to buy exhibition space and support the conference with sponsorship.

To make the event as accessible as possible, travel expenses will be covered for speakers outside of London, promotional materials will be printed, and live-streaming equipment will be purchased.

Project Twenty21 manager Mags Houston, who is coordinating the event with Medcan Support’s Matt Hughes, commented: “Since I joined the cannabis space less than two years ago, I’ve seen some fantastic educational medical cannabis webinars hosted by the likes of PLEA, the UK Medical Cannabis Clinicians’ Society and Medcan Support.

They have been vital throughout the pandemic for ensuring patient and prescriber voices continue to be heard, and a way for the community to feel united during these somewhat disconnected times.

“Now, as we get back to meeting in person again, we’re seeing corporate industry events spring up, as well as spaces for more recreational audiences and existing cannabis users.

But in the middle, there’s a huge gap: we’re lacking an opportunity for the general public, and – more specifically – medical cannabis patients, to come together as a community and tell their stories.”

She continued: “We hope to welcome the general public, prescription and
non-prescription patients, healthcare professionals, charities, policymakers, licensed producers, and indeed anyone who is interested in hearing what the patients have to say.

This will be a unique opportunity to hear patients share their personal journeys as the event will be live-streamed and recorded for those unable to attend in person to watch from home.

The venue has wheelchair access and there will be lots of stalls hosted by industry organisations wishing to engage with patients in-person on the day.”
