Reducing anxiety with cannabis

Reducing anxiety with cannabis, including separation anxiety and social anxiety, seems to be a very powerful tool according to a growing body of research.

A major depressive disorder or mental health issue, anxiety is characterized by fear, worried thoughts, and tension.

Physical changes can also occur, such as increased heart rate, shaking, trembling, panic attacks, and high blood pressure.

Although each person has different symptoms related to anxiety, the typical signs, and symptoms of anxiety disorder include restlessness, emotional distress, feelings of worry, concentration difficulties, increased irritability, sleep apnea, insomnia, panic disorder, social phobia, behavioral changes, mood disorders, etc.

Anxiety can be caused by a variety of factors. Some people have multiple symptoms, while others have a single symptom that causes distress.

However, the most common causes of anxiety include:

  • Anxiety can be triggered by external factors, such as relationship difficulties, family problems, financial difficulties, or challenges in maintaining a better work-life balance.
  • Genetics can also contribute to anxiety, according to studies. It is likely that you will suffer from anxiety if your parents, grandparents, or other relatives suffered from it.
  • Stress and depression, which are major depressive disorders, can increase anxiety levels. Some people experience side effects after prolonged use of medications like antidepressants, narcotics, and chronic pain relievers.

Antidepressants may be effective in treating anxiety, but they may also exacerbate it.

Anxiety can also be caused by hormonal changes during pregnancy, neurological disorders, neuropathic pain, neck and back pain, and chemical imbalances in the brain.

Endocannabinoids: The secret to reducing anxiety with cannabis?

For anxiety and other depressive disorders, it is essential to understand the endocannabinoid system. Endocannabinoids, receptors, and enzymes make up the endocannabinoid system.

Endocannabinoids, also known as endogenous cannabinoids, are natural molecules produced by your body. In spite of the fact that these molecules are similar to cannabinoids, your body produces them through biological mechanisms.

Endocannabinoid receptors are found throughout the body and play a crucial role in transmitting and receiving signals. CB1 and CB2 receptors are the primary cannabinoid receptors. They are both abundant in the central nervous system, and also somewhat in the peripheral nervous systems, including the immune system.

The enzymes act as a catalyst to streamline our body’s metabolism and regulate the function of endocannabinoids at neuronal and peripheral levels, which helps to regulate further bodily functions.

Recent research has started to pick apart the endocannabinoid system and how important it is for a wide variety of body processes, such as strengthening the immune system, reducing neuropathic and chronic pain, optimising your metabolism, triggering inflammation responses and aiding with appetite and digestion.

Yet more research is being done on the notion that it also affects mood,
learning, memory, sleep, sensory and motor control, heart function, muscle development, musculoskeletal formation, skin and nerve function, and the reproductive system.

How cannabis interacts with this system is still a mystery waiting to be unlocked, but the more studies are being done, the more we are starting to see a lot of positive changes to so many medical areas.
