What is Project Twenty21?

Project Twenty21 is a clinical trial looking at the safety and efficacy of cannabis in the management of chronic neuropathic pain and many other conditions. Due to fears surrounding the future of the NHS, Project Twenty21 is currently looking for patients who suffer from pain. Patients would have to show that they have not responded to other forms  of treatment. The study is open to anyone over 18 years old who meets these criteria.

Project Twenty21’s primary objective is to produce pharmaceutical grade medicinal cannabis for doctors and patients through licensed pharmacies.  The study is aimed to collect performance data from patients. These results will be used to perform a cost-effectiveness analysis and ultimately inform future policy decisions about the use of cannabis for medical treatment.

Clinical trials are a vital and important part of drug development. They allow us to understand how effective medicines are and how safe they are for patients. Clinical trial data is also used to provide healthcare professionals with information about the outcomes that patients can expect. They also provide an insight into the potential side effects associated with taking part in a specific study.

Furthermore, the results of these trials are also used to apply for market authorisation from regulatory bodies such as the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA). The MHRA use the information provided by clinical trials when assessing applications for marketing authorisation. This is to ensure that these products are safe, effective and of high quality before allowing them onto the market.
