Medical Cannabis for Epilepsy:

Medical cannabis is a relatively new form of treatment for many individuals who suffer from epilepsy and other related illnesses. Many people are hesitant to try medical cannabis because they do not know enough about it or the benefits that it can provide.

There are studies that have shown that patients who suffer from epilepsy have experienced positive results when using medical cannabis. When it comes to treating epilepsy, it is best to first consult with a medical specialist. Medical cannabis can be prescribed by a specialist doctor, who is registered on the GMC register.

Treating Seizures with Cannabis:

Cannabis has been used for centuries as an herbal remedy; however, the past few decades have seen a much greater focus on the medical uses of cannabis. There have been numerous studies conducted on cannabis specifically for treating seizures and epilepsy.

These studies have shown that there are some significant benefits to using cannabis as a treatment option for seizures. However, every patient is different. Before you decide to begin using medical cannabis for your condition, doctors ask that you exhaust all types of conventional medicines first.

An example of a cannabis product which is recommeneded by NICE (The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence) is Epidyolex.

Epidyolex for Epilepsy:

Epidyolex for epilepsy is a medication that contains cannabidiol (CBD) as an active ingredient. This medication is prescribed to patients who have Lennox-Gastaut syndrome (LGS) or Dravet syndrome (DS). Both LGS and DS are rare forms of epilepsy that are difficult to treat with common medications.

Treatment may be initiated with Epidyolex as monotherapy at a dose of 5 mg/kg/day or 10 mg/kg/day, after a titration period of 3 days on the initial dose of 2.5 mg/kg/day or 5 mg/kg/day, respectively.

Epidyolex should not be co-administered with ketogenic foods or any products containing THC or other cannabinoids. It should be administered 2 hours before or 6 hours after other oral medications because these other drugs can lower the level of Epidyolex in your body.

It is important to note that WE ARE NOT medical specialists. If you are thinking of using Epidyolex for epilepsy, please consult with a medical specialist beforehand.
